Printing on Wax

How it is done

Working with drawings.

To start, watercolor was applied to canvas after which a clear wax overlay was applied.  A mirror image drawing was made on glassine paper.  It was flipped over onto the the prepared wax surface and burnished into the wax.  After the transfer, colored wax  was added to finish the picture.

Finished painting.  “The Old Barn.”

Underpainting in preparation for photo xerox image transfer.  See below for finished picture.

A reversed Xerox photo with mirror writing was flipped over onto the prepared wax base and burnished into the wax.

The tree was created using this same method.
